Communications and Public Relations Manager
American Red Cross-Biomedical Services
Peoria, Illinois

The American Red Cross, Heart of America Blood Services Region, is currently seeking a qualified applicant to manage overall public relations and communications to enhance public awareness of the need to donate blood. The successful candidate must develop, manage, and maintain strong media relationships that will achieve blood collection goals and motivate donors to give blood.

Responsibilities:

·Establish strategic direction for public relations and communication efforts to ensure achievements of blood collection goals and organizational objectives.

·Collaborate with American Red Cross Chapter counterpart to ensure a single image in the region.

·Cultivate and nurture media relations, contacts, and partnerships for promoting the American Red Cross mission and provide related stories; manage effective media relations on a wide spectrum of American Red Cross topics, ensuring a consistent message to the public, and enhancing media responsiveness during emergency conditions.

·Produce and issue press releases as well as for addressing media inquiries and special project information.

·Develop and maintain public relations/communication plans for internal and external audiences. Develop promotions, plans and events to motivate donors to donate blood and/or to drive donors to bloodmobiles.

·Excite and foster new promotions and special events.

·Oversee the development and design of internal and external communication materials (i.e. newsletters, brochures, posters, etc.) to support donor recruitment and donor retention efforts.

·Oversee the creative development and production of collateral materials to support American Red Cross mission, donor recruitment, customer account management, and other areas of the organization as well as to provide leadership to creative development.

Qualifications:

·Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred.

·Minimum seven to ten years of public relations experience required

·Minimum of three years recent supervisory experience required.

·Experience in media purchasing, consumer promotion development and execution, and basic level computer skills required. Event planning experience desirable.

·Must have highly developed leadership, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, assimilate information quickly, analyze problems, and implement solutions. Evidence of success is required in portfolio, ability to generate ideas and plan implementations.

·Must have exceptional interpersonal skills with all levels of staff, media, volunteers, donors, external partners and the general public. Relationships must be documented.
